Make TK50 kit from Hobbyist CD > >>However, I don't actually have 6 TK50s. So, do I need all >>of the VMS072.x save sets? Can I put more than one saveset >>on a tape? > >Back when VMS was distributed on TK50, all the savesets used to >be on one tape. For completeness, you should start by making the >tape bootable (SYS$UPDATE:STABACKIT.COM will do this) and the >copy the savesets onto the tape. And (remembering that 2 blocks == 1KB!) the VMS072.x sets should all fit on one tape. It's a tight squeeze, approx 170000 blocks on a 180000 block tape. Hopefully there is no serious overhead in the tape format. >If all you want to do is transfer V7.2 onto your MicroVAX it may be easier to >copy the savesets from CD to TK50 and thence to the MicroVAX. As long as they >all live in [000000] on any accessible drive you should be all set. Sounds like a plan. The machine only has one RA70 (approx 270MB) disk, so it might be a bit of a squeeze. I'd also prefer to wipe the disk and do a clean install. Now, I can use my standalone backup tape to copy the kit from TK50 to the disk, but how do I first INIT the disk from STABACKUP? ------ The TLZ04 is a first generation DAT drive. It doesn't support compression. It only supports 60 meter tapes. Don't use longer ones, you might not get them back. -------- :I would like to dial up my old VAX which has a DHV11. I have a :9600 baud modem connected to one of the ports on the DHV11. Each :time I try to dail in it comes back with the error Your VAX/VMS :modem is wired wrong please see your system manager. Chances are, your wiring is wrong. :I thought all modern modems where AT&t compatible or am I missing :something. Start with: http://www.openvms.digital.com:8000/72final/6136/6136pro_016.html#modemc I typically prefer to use "limited" modem control, and not the "full" modem control. Set the OpenVMS host serial port as SET TERMINAL/MODEM/PERMANENT in SYSTARTUP*.COM. And /AUTOBAUD, if appropriate. --------- I've got some Plextor 12x-20 or something like that drives, and they work well. Seen many people claim the Plextor drives work well in VMS systems. Same on the Seagate drive. Try a 'real' VMS distribution CD. "In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded."
